Steamer Mop Safety Precautions

Most Important Rule - Read and Follow Your Steamer Mop Manual!

It is imperative to read the instruction manual that comes with your mop. In all likelihood, this manual will come with a long list of safety precautions.

If you have not purchased one yet, it is not a bad idea to familiarize yourself with the basic safety rules of operating one of these steam mops. After all, it is a known fact that water plus electricity can be a dangerous combination. However, by taking the time to learn about these machines and how to safely operate them, you should have no problems.

First, turn off and unplug the cleaner when it is not in use. This may seem like common sense, but when you are in the middle of a Saturday morning cleaning frenzy, it can be easy to overlook this important point.

Also, turn off the machine and unplug it when you empty and refill the water tank, as well as when you change the cleaning pads. When you do plug the unit back into the electrical outlet, make sure your hands are completely dry.

Do not operate the steam mop without water in the tank. Also, do not operate it without a cleaning pad attached.

Remember, steam is emitted from the machine when in use. Steam is very hot and can cause burns. If you need to remove or adjust the cleaning pad, make sure the mop is turned off and that the pad has had time to cool. Also, make sure children and pets are a safe distance from the mop when you are using it. Remind young children that the machine is not a toy. Older children should receive detailed instructions regarding use, and should be properly supervised when operating the mop.

Do not use cleaners in the water tank. As stated in previous articles, this will void the warranty and ruin the machine. It also may cause the machine to malfunction, which puts you at risk of harm.

Use only accessories, such as cleaning pads and filters, that are specifically designed for working with your steamer. Making your own cleaning pads or using accessories not designed to work with your machine leads to improper use, which may subsequently cause harm to you.

Your steamer mop manual will have further instructions. Read them, keep them, and on occasion, review them, to ensure that you are taking the proper precautions to safely operate your cleaner.
